The federal coach Gustavo Poget for several weeks he has asked through her EPO from the Super League not to hold playoff games on Sunday, March 17. And this is in order to have more days at his disposal for the international footballers who compete in the Greek league in view of the match or playoff matches of the “blue and white” for a place in the finals of Euro 2024. Despite the fact that the national team has a second chance in front of it to be back in a major competition after ten years, the majority of the PAE of the Super League are against the implementation of Poget’s request to postpone the 2nd matchday of the league playoffs! The agents of the professional teams do not in fact show respect to the national team and this causes only negative comments.
The issue of not holding games on March 17 has not been officially discussed in the Board of the organizing authority. However, informal discussions have taken place between the groups and it appears from them that Poget’s request has no luck.
In the association, the issue will come up again in an attempt to convince the teams that will compete in the playoffs to say “yes” to the transfer of the competition.
Based on UEFA’s scheduling and the relevant draws made, the national team in the semi-final of the League C play-offs will face Kazakhstan on March 21 at the OPAP Arena. And if she qualifies, on the 26th of the following month she will compete away from home for the ticket to participate in the Euro finals against the winner of the Georgia-Luxembourg match. Poget wishes to have the internationals from the 11th and not from the 18th of March. And this does not need a special analysis since our national team has the opportunity to be in Germany in June.
The bad precedent
The calendar is under pressure due to the holding of the Euro, however there are dates. For example, there was no game scheduled on Holy Wednesday, May 1st. Nevertheless, in the first phase, the majority of the league is negative on the issue raised by Poget. Which is not surprising, since for the players of CL1, the interest of their teams takes precedence, which they put above the national team.
In addition, they do not facilitate the teams that represent Greek football in Europe either, although our country needs points. Olympiacos requested the postponement of its derby with PAOK in order to be “fresh” in the rematch with Ferentsvaros, but the league board blocked the “red and white” request. And this despite the fact that there have been repeated discussions in the association for facilitation in terms of their schedule of teams participating in UEFA competitions.

There is no respect for the national team even from the EPO itself – at least as far as the field facilities where the internationals train are concerned. In the federation… they advertise that they have more than 8 million euros in their coffers for the construction of the new training center of national teams, but the related procedures are “stuck”.
