Latest Survey Shows Decrease in Favorability for President Gustavo Petro

A recent polymetric survey conducted by polling firm Cifras y Conceptos has revealed a decline in the favorability ratings of Colombian President Gustavo Petro. The survey, which focused on the perception of citizens regarding various national issues, highlighted a significant decrease in Petro’s favorability since March of this year.

According to the survey, Petro’s favorability currently stands at 42%, a notable drop from the previous rating of over 52% in March. This decline in favorability is a cause for concern for the President, as it indicates a growing dissatisfaction among the public.

The survey was conducted in urban areas across several cities, including Bogotá, Medellín, Cali, Barranquilla, Santa Marta, Manizales, Villavicencio, Valledupar, Pereira, Ibagué, Cúcuta, and Cartagena. The results revealed a consistent increase in Petro’s unfavorability since November 2022.

In June, Petro’s unfavorability reached 55%, compared to 40% in May and 31% in November 2022. This steady rise in unfavorability over the past eight months marks the first time that Figures and Concepts, the polling firm, has recorded a higher disapproval rating than a positive image for the President. It is worth noting that 4% of those surveyed were unsure of their opinion.

The survey also examined the favorability of Vice President Francia Márquez. The results showed that her unfavorability rating surpassed her approval rating, with 57% of respondents expressing dissatisfaction with her management. On the other hand, 36% of those surveyed believed that Márquez’s first ten months in the Vice Presidency had been positive. 6% of respondents were unsure of their opinion.

These findings indicate a growing discontent among the Colombian public towards both President Gustavo Petro and Vice President Francia Márquez. As Petro’s favorability continues to decline, it remains to be seen how this will impact his presidency and the overall political landscape in Colombia.
