In the last hours, the board of the Bank of the Republic decided to lower the interest rate from 13.25% to 13%, a decision that was applauded by President Gustavo Petro, who had made the request on repeated occasions.
“Good news that the issuer lowers the interest rate. “To the extent that the inflation rate drops, the interest rate can lower even further and economic reactivation begins,” said the Colombian president.
However, it is worth noting that the manager of the Bank of the Republic, Leonardo Villar, assured that this decision does not mean that a period of rate reduction will begin.
“The beginning of a rate reduction like today’s does not necessarily imply that we continue to do so in future meetings. “The reduction that we are making today is done with full confidence that it will not have to be reversed,” Villar said.
