According to the American magazine “Newsweek”, the Gustave-Roussy Institute in Villejuif in Val-de-Marne is one of the top 5 best hospitals in the world specializing in cancerology. It is ranked 4th in this ranking produced for the year 2024.

Our recurring presence in the Top 5 in 2024 is the fruit of investment and efforts of all the professionals of the Institute mobilized to offer the best of innovation in order to cure cancer in the 21st century”, comments Professor Fabrice Barlesi, general director of Gustave Roussy.
The Institute comes in fourth place behind three American hospitals. Newswwek magazine relied on the results of an online survey carried out among several thousand recognized experts in the world of health and quality indicators expressed by patients.
Gustave Roussy in Villejuif in Val-de-Marne is a healthcare, research and teaching institute. More than 49,000 patients are seen there each year according to the institute. The establishment houses several teaching and research structures including the School of Cancer Sciences created jointly by the Institute and the University of Paris Saclay.
On the Institut Gustave Roussy website, Professor Fabrice Barlesi, general director of Gustave Roussy, recalls the ambitions of the establishment, to become the “largest European campus dedicated to cancer, with the challenge of health independence in cancerology for France, with in particular the construction of new buildings dedicated to personalized prevention and rapid diagnosis of cancer, a new research center, but also through the ambitious renovation program for our hospitalization units”.

This world ranking reviews 925 hospitals specializing in oncology but also in cardiology, neurosurgery or obstetrics to name just a few of the 12 specialties evaluated by the magazine.
Other establishments in Île-de-France stand out in this ranking. Like the Pitié Salpêtriére university hospital of the Assistance Publique-Hôpitaux de Paris (AP-HP) in the 13th arrondissement of Paris. The establishment obtained a 10th place for cardiac surgery and a 16th place for pulmonology. The Institut Curie, in the 5th arrondissement, specializing in oncology, took 21st place. Other hospitals in Île-de-France such as the Geoges Pompidou hospital in the 15th arrondissement or the AP-HP Antoine Béclert in Clamard are also cited in the review.
