Gustav Davidsson in Hammarby handball ready for Rhein-Neckar Löwen

Sportbladet can reveal one of the year’s most surprising signings in Swedish handball.

Hammarby’s Gustav Davidsson is ready for Rhein Neckar-Löwen.

The 23-year-old is bought off by the German big club for next season.

Gustav Davidsson is the team captain for the successful team Hammarby, which is fourth in the handball league and won the first cup final (of two) against Kristianstad earlier this week.

Bajen and Davidsson played in the Allsvenskan as recently as two years ago.

Davidsson’s progress in the league (and the cup) has obviously caused clubs in Europe to wake up.

Replacement for Lukas Nilsson

The left-back/middle-back has been chased by the majority and now Sportbladet can reveal that none other than the big German club Rhein-Neckar Löwen won the fight.

Davidsson has signed a multi-year contract with RNL and can be seen as a replacement for Lukas Nilsson, who is leaving Germany for Aalborg next season. RNL is currently second in the Bundesliga.

Albin Lagergren also leaves RNL (for Magdeburg), while Olle Forsell Schefvert remains, as does Mikael Appelgren.

Davidsson has Åhus as his parent club but moved to Gothenburg as a youngster with his family and debuted in the handball league in 2017/18 for Sävehof. He had a small role in Sävehof’s golden team in 2019 before leaving for Hammarby in the Allsvenskan that same year.

Hammarby face Helsingborg away tonight in their pursuit of a top four finish.
