Gustaf Unger will be the new CEO of Avanza

The online bank Avanza has appointed Gustaf Unger to new CEO, according to a press release. He has previously held senior positions at Nordea and SEB and has also been one of the co-founders of a fintech platform focused on the commercial debt market. Until now, he has also been a board member of Avanza competitor Nordnet, an assignment he is now leaving with immediate effect.

“Avanza is a pioneer in savings and during its first 25 years has developed the market not only for its nearly 2 million customers but for all Swedish savers through accessibility, a wider offer and lower prices. I am very much looking forward to contributing to further strong development where Avanza continues to shape the future in this sector, always with the customers’ best interests in mind,” says the CEO-elect in a comment.

Gustaf Unger will take up his role as soon as the management review at the Financial Supervisory Authority is completed, it says.

It has been about three months since Knut Frängsmyr took up the role but he was forced to leave after just one week. The decision was taken after a dialogue with the Financial Supervisory Authority, FI, where previous fines in connection with a conversion of Knut Frängsmyr’s private residence played a role.

“The process has become even more careful this second time, because it must not go wrong,” said Sven Hagströmer to Today’s Industry the other week.
