Gus Nur Protests Arrest, Polri Sends Pretrial

Jakarta

Sugi Nur Rahardja alias Gus Nur finally arrested. Gus Nur was arrested and was identified as a suspect of hate speech allegations related to words allegedly insulting Nahdlatul Ulama (NOT).

However, lawyers and Gus Nur’s family protested over the midnight arrests. Gus Nur was previously arrested by a team from Bareskrim Polri on Saturday (24/10) in the morning at his house in Malang.

“Midnight, enter the house, search people’s houses, what they did,” said Munjiat (21), Gus Nur’s second child, to detikcom at his house, Saturday (24/10/2020).

The police themselves came with warrants for arrest, detention and confiscation of evidence. The police arrived while Gus Nur was doing cupping after he returned from attending recitation classes in Kedungkandang, Malang City.

“The hope is that if it is wrong to be arrested it’s okay, if I’m not mistaken it will be released. Don’t blame it. Now the wrong is justified, the right one is blamed,” said Munjiat.

The attorney also conveyed the same thing Gus Nur, Andry Ermawan. Andry assessed that the arrest was deemed not procedural.

“Because Gus Nur in the arrest was already a suspect. In the meantime, if the procedure is at least summons as a witness, there will be investigations. After that, there are two pieces of evidence,” said Andry detikcom, Saturday (24/10).

“If he is not cooperative, then he can be picked up forcibly. Well, this isn’t it. We also regret being arrested at night. Midnight is above 23.00 WIB,” he added.

However, the National Police emphasized that there was nothing wrong with the arrest Gus Nur. Whenever there is a protest, the National Police is invited to go through the existing legal procedures.

“Everything is in accordance with the procedure,” said Head of Public Relations of the Police, Inspector General Argo Yuwono, when contacted, Sunday (25/10/2020).

“If there is something that doesn’t fit, please submit it to the pretrial,” said Inspector General Argo.
