If Norway is to keep up with the changes the world is facing, a prime minister and a governing party in government that dares to govern are needed, believes Guri Melby (V).
In his speech to the party’s elected conference on Saturday, the left-wing leader pointed out, among other things, that Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre (Ap) has warned against the EU debate could create division – most recently in Kjetil Alstadheim’s book “Jonas and the war”, which was published earlier this month.
– In Norway, we have a prime minister who warns against the EU debate because he believes it can have a polarizing effect. A prime minister who does not dare to govern, said Melby.
She believes that in a time of major changes and a political crisis of confidence, there is a need for leadership, and pointed out, among other things, that the war in Ukraine has led to Sweden and Finland scrapping their neutrality policy.
– If we shy away from difficult debates for fear of disagreement, then we stand with our heads in the sand while the world changes terribly quickly around us, said the Liberal leader.
Melby also pointed out that Oil and Energy Minister Terje Aasland (Ap) was in Brussels earlier this week and complained that the energy transition in Norway is going too slowly.
– So instead of governing in government, the so-called governing party Ap goes to Brussels and apologizes, said Melby.
NTB has asked Støre for a comment on the case.
