Maximilian Günther has won the first race of the New York E-Prix. Robin Frijns took a handsome fifth place after tactical play with the attack modes. In the championship, the Dutchman now shares first place with Edoardo Mortara. Nyck de Vries finished thirteenth after having to start the race from eighteenth position.

At the start Nick Cassidy knew his pole position cashing in and kept the lead. Alex Lynn was a little too eager and braked in an attempt to take second place from Vergne. As a result, the Brit fell back to fifth place.

Turn number 10

Most of the action of the race took place in the hairpin of turn number ten. It started in the first round when de Vries was part of his team in the busy midfield bodywork lost.

Then it was Pascal Wehrlein who tapped Lynn around in the attack mode activation zone at turn ten. It seemed an error of judgment on the part of the German, who was unable to continue the race. As a result, Frijns managed to move forward. The Dutchman suggested the use of his attack modes out for a long time. As a result, he had an advantage towards the end of the race when he was one of the few drivers to be attack modes had left.

Full course yellow

For a moment it seemed that the tactically strong choice of Frijns would fall into the water. Mitch Evans stranded on the track, causing a brief full course yellow was activated, just when Frijns had his second attack mode had activated. Fortunately for Frijns, the full course yellow but for a moment and the Dutchman was able to take advantage of his tactical move. Frijns climbed up to fifth place and came with his attack mode just too short to take on Lucas di Grassi on P4

Battle for Victory

Although Cassidy managed to keep the lead at the start, he was not able to walk away from Vergne. It wasn’t until the end of the race that Vergne was able to attack Cassidy. In the hairpin, the Frenchman made an attempt, but hit Cassidy short. This allowed Günther to overtake both men on the outside and take the lead. Vergne remained in second, but Cassidy fell back to fourth behind Lucas di Grassi.

Championship

Due to the fifth position and a zero score for Edoardo Mortara, Frijns was able to equalize in the championship standings with 72 points. Before the race, De Vries had already Grand Prix Radio told he had no idea what to expect in New York. De Fries scored no points due to his thirteenth place and is now in seventh place in the championship with Oliver Rowland with 52 points.
