“Gunther delves deeper into WWE’s past”

WWE Intercontinental Champion Gunther has just passed Mr. Perfect’s 280-day reign (November 1990 to August 1991). Gunther is now the fourth longest reigning champion in WWE history.

The champion is four days away from surpassing Greg Valentine’s reign of 285 days between 1984 and 1985. Second on the list is Randy Savage with 414 days (February 1986 at WrestleMania 3).

The record for the longest Intercontinental Champion reign is Honky Tonk Man’s with 454 days between 1987 and 1988.

Which takes us to September 8, 2023 if Gunther were to become the longest-reigning Intercontinental Champion in WWE history.

Gunther has been champion since June 10, 2022 when he won the title from Ricochet on an episode of SmackDown.
