Several shots were fired at Hollywood Boulevard in Los Angeles on Sunday night as Vicente Fernandez fans staged a memorial for the Mexican music legend.
The incident happened around 6:30 p.m. when a group of music lovers gathered in front of Fernandez’s star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
A man fired his rifle several times from the balcony of his apartment across the street, LAPD said.
No one was injured in the shooting, police came to arrest the suspect. It is currently unclear whether Fernandez fans were his target.
Witnesses said they heard five or six gunshots, while a glass door to one of the buildings in the neighborhood was smashed.
Fernandez died Sunday at the age of 81. The musician has had health problems since a fall at his home in August, in which he injured his cervical spine and required surgery.
Nicknamed the “King of Ranchera Music,” Fernandez has recorded over 50 albums during his impressive career, selling over 50 million records, and he has appeared in over 30 films. One of Mexico’s most beloved artists, Fernandez has been nominated for 13 Grammys and has won three times.
