NEW YORK – Insanity grips New York City after an MTA bus was hijacked at gunpoint in Queens and crashed into a power pole after the captain abandoned his “boat,” according to authorities .
Authorities say a gunman approached the driver between 199th Street and Linden Boulevard in Cambria Heights before 9am Thursday and asked him to open the door. Then he ordered the driver to drive.
The bus driver jumped out of the window as they approached 232nd Street and Linden Boulevard shortly thereafter, sending the vehicle into a light pole. The driver was transported to the hospital with minor injuries.
The gunman was arrested on the spot, authorities said.
There were no passengers on the bus at the time, although it was unclear if they got off before the situation escalated.
The MTA could not be reached immediately for comment. More details are expected on Thursday.
