gunman arrested outside UN headquarters

Footage circulating on social media showed a man, dressed in red, holding what looks like a high-caliber weapon under his chin, on a sidewalk surrounding the compound of the United Nations headquarters, surrounded by police officers, at of the 42^e street and 1^e avenue de Manhattan.

The avenue along the UN headquarters was closed to traffic. In photos, the man behind the building’s closure stood in front of the gate with police officers nearby, protected by a van.

“Establish a dialogue”

“We are in the process of establishing a dialogue” with the individual, “a white man in his sixties, possibly armed. The situation is ongoing, ”said a spokeswoman for the NYPD, the New York police.
