One person killed in the latest firefight in the area of Kabul’s international airport was a soldier Afghanistan. The gunfight reportedly took place at the airport gate as the evacuation process continued under the security of the army United States of America (AS).
As reported Associated Press, Monday (23/8/2021), Afghan security forces collapsed without a fight Taliban took power in Afghanistan last week.
Tens of thousands of Afghans are trying to flee the country fearing the Taliban’s brutal leadership. The situation sparked chaos at Kabul airport, which is the main route out of Afghanistan.
Afghan soldiers are known to help with the evacuation process carried out by Western countries.
A gun battle reportedly broke out at the gates of Kabul airport killing one person and wounding three others. The German military said in a statement that the dead and injured were “members of the Afghan military” who took part in securing the airport.
Three injured Afghan soldiers are currently undergoing medical treatment at a makeshift hospital in the Kabul airport area.
The cause of the shootout that occurred in the early hours of the morning is still unclear. Report CNN said the incident began when a sniper outside Kabul airport opened fire on Afghan security forces near the airport’s north gate.
