Merger of the Gundelfingen branch with the Zähringen branch
The building of the Gundelfingen branch will soon be demolished due to a new construction project. The lease will expire shortly. Attempts to find an economically viable alternative location were unfortunately unsuccessful. For this reason, the Gundelfingen branch will be merged with the Zähringen branch from April 2, 2021.
“We would have liked to continue operating a branch in Gundelfingen,” explains Stephan Heinisch, Board Member for Private Customers. “The previous branch structure actually fits in well with our customer frequency. Unfortunately, the alternative locations available for selection were associated with economically unacceptable costs, ”Heinisch continues.
No effects for customers or employees
From April 5, 2021, all employees of the Gundelfingen branch will continue to be on site for the customers of Volksbank Freiburg in the branch in Zähringen, which is around five minutes away. The branch in Zähringen was completely modernized last year and offers all the usual banking services in a modern and pleasant atmosphere.
Long-term planning necessary for new branches
The establishment of a new branch is generally associated with very high costs. In addition to the running costs for the equipment and rent, the one-off costs for security, technology, renovation and furnishing are particularly significant. Increased by the corona pandemic, the trend continues that more and more people do their banking online or by phone.
Customer analyzes have also shown that there is a large overlap in customer flows between the Zähringen and Gundelfingen branches. A new location would have no long-term economic perspective.
