Gumtree’s classifieds website will soon be removed from the web
The site’s origins date back to 2000, when Gumtree first appeared on the web as a British classified ad service. After 4 years, the company expanded and appeared on the Polish market at gumtree.plto be acquired by eBay after a year.
Gumtree’s success in Poland from the beginning, it was indisputable. The website owed its popularity mainly to its intuitive interface (which unfortunately remained unchanged until 2022) and completely adding ads for free.
We mainly associate Gumtree with a website that did not charge users for posting ads from the very beginning.
The glory days of Gumtree are behind us. Today, there are just over 280,000 active ads and this number will gradually drop to 0, as the owners of the platform have recently announced that the possibility of adding ads has been blocked. The complete shutdown of Gumtree in Poland will take place on April 7, 2022.
What instead of Gumtree?
It is hard not to get the impression that in 2022 the most important sales platforms are:
Although both sites are not completely free – they offer much more than alternatives that do not charge a commission on sales – access to a wide range of potential customers.

Where did the decision to close Gumtree come from?
The only information Gumtree gives is that “Gumtree’s owner has decided to shut down the site“. Other than that, no details are whatsoever.
However, one may speculate that the main reason for the shutdown was lack of profitability. With the much more popular international sales platforms, Gumtree has become a thing of the past for most of us.
