Gullgutten Won’t Run Against Biden – VG

BEFORE TAKE OFF: California Governor Gavin Newsom (tv) with his family at the Los Angeles airport where they met with President Joe Biden.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom (55) won a landslide vote earlier this year and there is speculation that he will run for president in 2024. Did he just throw in the towel?

Published:

During this fall’s congressional elections, California Governor Gavin Newsom (55) bought advertising space in other states to promote Democrat policies and attack local Republican candidates.

Active climate policy, strong measures during the corona pandemic, restrictions on oil exploration and generous social policy are among the central issues, which contrast completely with republican profiles such as Ron DeSantis from Florida.

How one of the best known the democratic politicians out of their own state, relatively young and without many (known) scandals, it is assumed than if he wants to run in the US presidential election and be a candidate for the most powerful position in the world.

– I told everyone

But in a recent interview with Politico, he pours cold water on all hopefuls. He is not running as a candidate in 2024:

– I told everyone in the White House, from the chief of staff to the first lady, she told reporter Jonathan Martin to Politico on election night, appears in a recent item from the newspaper.

On election night, Martin heard him calling out to President Biden and giving his full support for his re-election in 2024: “I totally agree (…) we back you.”

Newsom is also said to have said he will not run for president in 2024 even if Biden does not run.

– The answer is no, he says in the subsequent interview.

Several reasons are given for Newsom’s decision: Democrats are betting everything on fighting a possible re-election of Donald Trump. If more Democrats announce their intention to run, it could divide the party and weaken the chances of winning.

It could be an old settlement

On a Press conference in early November, Joe Biden said he will run again. He is now 80 years old and will turn 82 in the same year in which the next electoral campaign will be decided.

Donald Trump (76), whom Biden defeated in the 2020 presidential election, said he plans to run again in 2024.

RUNNING AGAIN: Former US President Donald Trump.

If he wins among the Republican candidates, and Biden doesn’t lose to other contenders, the stage is set for an age-old showdown, with two candidates in their 80s.

But the successful DeSantis from Florida will run as a Republican presidential candidate. He is called “Trump with a brain” and previously fully supported Trump. Now it’s over and even the former president has come out against him.

In a newsletter sent shortly after the congressional election, Trump said he should be the one to thank for DeSanti’s success. That DeSantis came to him in desperation in 2017 or else he would have been politically dead.

ELECTION WINNER: DeSantis recently won the gubernatorial election in Florida by a clear margin.

– When I supported him, it was as if a nuclear weapon exploded, writes Trump.

In the letter, Trump says the electoral process in Florida’s Broward County was corrupted and stolen, and that Trump prevented “vote theft.”

– I prevented his election from being stolen, he says.

Out and out?

In the Politico interview, Newsom makes no secret of the fact that it is against DeSantis that he would prefer to run.

So, is the former business executive completely out of the picture? Many presidential candidates claimed they were irrelevant, before signing up for the world’s most powerful job battle.

In the meantime, he is ready to contribute to Biden’s re-election campaign.
