In the fight for a place in the semi-finals, Gulbis defeated the second seed of Austria Denis Novak in two sets 6-1, 7-6 (7-2). Due to rain, play was stopped in the second set when the score was tied at 5-5, but after the match resumed, a tiebreak was soon needed to determine the winner, in which Gulbis used the first of four match points.
In the ranking of the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP), Gulbis occupies the 365th place, while Novak is ranked in the 166th position.
In the fight for a place in the final, Gulbja’s opponent will be the Bulgarian Dimitars Kuzmanov (ATP 189)
In the tournament in Zug, Gulbis previously overcame the qualification with two victories and defeated Italian Gianluca Maghera (ATP 150) and French tennis player Hugo Blanchet (ATP 349) in the first two rounds of the main competition.
The “Challenger” series tournament in Zug will take place on clay courts, with tennis players fighting for a prize pool of 135,000 euros. “Challenger” tournaments are mostly attended by tennis players who are not playing on the ATP tour due to their ranking.
