Gujarat Man Severely Injures Himself to Escape Family Business
In a shocking turn of events, a 32-year-old man in Surat, Gujarat, India, inflicted severe injuries upon himself in a desperate attempt to avoid working at his family’s diamond firm. Mayur Tarapara, a computer operator in the accounts department of Anabh Gems, located in the Varachha Mini Bazaar, resorted to self-mutilation, severing four fingers from his left hand.
Initially,Tarapara claimed to police that he awoke to find his fingers missing after losing consciousness near Amroli’s Vedanta Circle on December 8th.However, a thorough investigation by the Surat crime Branch revealed a different story. The meticulous examination of CCTV footage and other evidence uncovered the truth.
According to police, Tarapara lacked the courage to tell his family he wished to leave his job. “Tarapara confessed that he bought a sharp knife from a shop near Char Rasta in singanpore,” a police official stated. “Four days later, on Sunday night, he went to Amroli Ring Road and parked his motorcycle there. At around 10 pm, he cut off four fingers with a knife and tied a rope near the elbow to prevent blood flow. He then put the knife and fingers in a bag and threw it away.”
The police official further explained that tarapara’s friends took him to the hospital. Three of the severed fingers were recovered from a discarded bag, along with the knife found in a separate bag. The incident highlights the immense pressure individuals can face in family businesses and the extreme measures some may take to escape perceived inescapable situations.
