Kaspars Niklasons is a musician, composer and producer studying classical guitar at the Latvian Academy of Music. Thinking about the relationship with oneself, family and the world, at the moment the most personal result was created: an album dedicated to the musician’s roots and named after himself. The sounds of the surrounding environment and conversations with other human beings are intertwined in the compositions. His mood and pitch were influenced by the artwork of Niklason’s grandfather Imantas Vecozola.
The track “Muffled”, released in September, offers a wide spectrum of sounds, from electronic vibrations to the bubbling sounds of the acoustic guitar. As the second came out “Lonely Mind”, in which the musician was inspired by the daily dynamics of his grandparents. “I was drawn to the idea of capturing time by day, something that would be difficult to imagine in the Riga rush. Time is the currency here. This idea resonated with me and became the ideological direction of the piece” Lonely Mind ” Niklasons admits Violinist Spāre Vītola also took part in the recording of the piece.
When asked about his future projects, the musician replies: “I remember the day when I realized that all I want to do in this life is write music, collaborate with other musicians and play. In the future I would like to write songs for singers too, but at the moment I feel organic, acting directly in the genre of instrumental music. With this album I have matured to get to know my audience better. “
Kaspar’s discography consists of the EP “Yard Wolf” released in 2019 and the mixtape “T elpa s_01” released in 2021, both discs were nominated for the “Zelta mikrofons” award for music recording of the year. Niklason has also composed music for several theatrical productions.
