At the end of last week, the Guingamp Country Health Defense Committee sounded the alarm bells, expressing very serious concerns for the future of the maternity and surgery at Guingamp hospital.
He said that the CME (Institutional Medical Commission) body had met on Tuesday evening, September 14, and that, although the timetable was not yet known, the closure of these two services was to be feared.
“Our fears were founded”
Immediately also, the Guingamp maternity defense collective reacted: “Our fears were well founded! Restructuring would therefore mean closing the maternity ward and the surgery, according to what leaked from the last Establishment Medical Commission ”.
Scared by the crisis that has already shaken the maternity hospital in Guingamp, threatened with closure in 2018 and finally “saved” after very long months of mobilization, hospital staff and unions announced a demonstration on Monday, September 27 to challenge the elected officials of the hospital. territory.
Elected officials who generally temper these worrying announcements, such as MP Yannick Kerlogot in particular, who is also speaking this week on the future of the hospital.
The explanations of the director of the hospital
For his part, the hospital director also rests the elements of the debate. Samuel Froger explains that an “expert” in health, Bruno Rossetti came (for the ARS) to study the future offer of care in Guingamp and Lannion, in particular with a view to building a new hospital in Guingamp in the coming years.
Bruno Rossetti held several meetings, in particular with the prefects and sub-prefects, parliamentarians, elected representatives of the territory, the president of the supervisory board of the establishment, representatives of staff and users, not to mention the medical representatives of Lannion, Guingamp and Saint-Brieuc. He also visited these last three sites during a “very busy week”.
The last meeting brought together the main medical and management officials of the three hospitals. During this meeting, by answering a question, Bruno Rossetti indicated that several scenarios were discussed. One of them plans to eliminate the permanence of care on the Guingamp site, while retaining a technical platform.
During the CME in Guingamp last week, discussions followed on this hypothesis and its consequences. “But there were only debates, there was no validation, no decision. Mr. Rossetti saw his mission extended by the ARS. He will have the opportunity to come back and meet other interlocutors. We are still in the scenario study and analysis phase, ”insists Samuel Froger.
The director of the hospital acknowledges, however, that by looking into the next five years with the construction of the new hospital, it is necessary “to study several scenarios and to consider the realistic and feasible perspectives”.
It also recalls that “health needs are not covered in the territory”. He mentions in particular the chemotherapy sessions: “Few are provided on the Guingamp site in relation to the needs. »Other treatments, in connection with city medicine, also need to be improved, according to Samuel Froger. The director also mentions the strengthening of imaging with a dedicated MRI in the long term. Among “many other tracks. But nothing has been finalized to date, ”recalls the director, who thinks that the visibility will be clearer on the subject in the months to come.
