Pinocchio by director Guillermo del Toro is the grand winner of the fiftieth Annie Awards, the film prizes for the best work in the animation world. The Netflix film won in five different categories on Sunday, including best picture.
The film by the Mexican director was already the big favorite in advance. The stop-motion animated film was nominated no fewer than nine times. Pinocchio also managed to redeem the nominations for best direction and best music, among other things.
Pinocchio is also one of this year’s nominees for the Oscar for Best Animated Feature. The film has a good chance of winning that award.
In the past ten years, Del Toro has won the Oscar for best animated film six times. This was also the case for the movies Soul (2020), Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018), Coco (2017) in Zootopia (2016).
