Guillermo Ceniceros Museum of Modern Art will leave “El Sabino”

The rehabilitation of the Zambrano Palace will house the work of the distinguished artist from Durango.

The Guillermo Ceniceros Modern Art Museum, which is currently located in the “El Sabino” house in this city, will change its location again as part of the rehabilitation project of the third stage of the Zambrano Palace, by order of the Cultural Institute of the State of Durango (ICED), with the aim of reducing the cost of rents and integrating various museum centers in a single property.

This was announced at a press conference by Socorro Soto Alanís, General Director of ICED, who emphasized that the primary activity of the institution she presides over is the promotion and dissemination of artists.

“El Sabino has an income of 50 thousand pesos a month, and that of Popular Cultures, 20 thousand pesos a month; The savings, subject to checking with the ICED Finance department, is already a considerable amount. We, as an institute, have the firm intention of promoting and disseminating the activities of artists ”, he said.

In past editions of La Voz de Durango, it had been announced that the remodeling of the Zambrano Palace would include in its sections a permanent exhibition hall with the best of the work of Durango plastic artists; now, the news is confirmed with the inclusion of the entire artistic work of the master Guillermo Ceniceros.

MUSEUM OF POPULAR CULTURES WILL HAVE THE SAME LUCK
According to what was announced by the official, the Museum of Popular Cultures, which is located on 5 de Febrero Street between Independencia and Nogal in the Historic Center, will suffer the same fate as Guillermo Ceniceros, since it will disappear from its current location. to move to what today corresponds to the new stage of reconstruction of the Zambrano Palace.

“El Sabino (today the Guillermo Ceniceros Museum) corresponds to the Pensions Department, they would have to decide what is going to be done in that house, and about Popular Cultures, the house where it is currently belongs to an individual. I only announce that it is going to disappear from where it is and both museums are going to come and merge directly into the Zambrano Palace, obviously included with the staff and its directors who have done a very good job. Fortunately, we can all fit here, ”said Soto Alanís.

So far, it is not officially known what will happen to the “El Sabino” house located on Aquiles Serdán street in the Madrazo neighborhood of this city. For now, the civil works for the exercise of the economic resource destined for the new stage of the Zambrano Palace, hopes to conclude its reconstruction work for next year.

It is expected that the Pensions Directorate will again assume the coordination of “El Sabino”, although it is also unofficially speculated that there is the possibility of housing the Ministry of Tourism in said property, since the previous building where It was located in the Barrio del Calvario, it is disabled by the construction of the new Durango Film Museum.
