Wolfsburg – Even after his important goal in the 2-2 (1-2) win against Werder Bremen, long-time captain Josuha Guilavogui does not know whether he will stay at VfL Wolfsburg or leave the club this month.
“I’m here today. We don’t know what tomorrow will bring. I’m not in a position to say what I want,” said the 31-year-old Frenchman after the game.
Guilavogui already played for VfL from 2014 to January 2022 before moving to Girondins Bordeaux in his home country. Since the traditional club there was surprisingly relegated from the first division and could not sign the defensive player, Guilavogui initially returned to Wolfsburg in the summer. Actually, despite a contract that runs until 2023, it seemed that he was no longer needed there. Against Werder, however, he came on as a substitute at the beginning of the second half, stabilized the previously weak VfL game – and scored the goal in the 84th minute to make it 2-2.
“Football can be very difficult – and it can be the best job in the world. Today was such a moment,” said Guilavogui. Apparently he can imagine staying there: “I know what a great club Wolfsburg is. For me, the Bundesliga is also one of the best leagues in the world. I’m very grateful to be here,” he said. “Sometimes you have to leave something to see: That was really awesome.”
National player Lukas Nmecha also spoke out in favor of Guilavogui. “We all love Josh,” the attacker said. “He’s a guide, he’s extremely helpful to us. Hopefully he stays with us all season.”
