guides are launched on Apple Maps – Dimension Turistica Magazine

Uncover Puerto Rico, the non-profit entity in charge of promoting the Caribbean island as a tourist destination, published three guides on Apple Maps aimed at tourists and reported that more will be shared in the coming weeks. These guides are a set of reliable and specific recommendations to plan a trip to the island that stands out for its natural reserves as well as its colonial and Creole architecture.

With this initiative, Puerto Rico becomes the first destination in the Caribbean, through its Destination Marketing Organization (DMO), with guides on this platform that can be viewed on all Apple devices: iPhone, iPad and Mac.

“This expands Discover Puerto Rico’s ability to reach travelers on the platforms they use to plan and choose experiences for their trips,” assured Leah Chandler, director of advertising and marketing of Uncover Puerto Rico.

In a press release, the organization assured that the guides will be updated automatically when new places are created, in such a way that users will have updated recommendations.

1. Guide to beaches throughout the island

The guide explains that Puerto Rico has more than 270 miles (430 kilometers) of coastline and nearly 300 beaches; so for travelers it can be a difficult task to choose which one to visit. Uncover Puerto Rico makes it easy and recommends several, including:

  • Flamenco Beach in Culebra: It has been classified as one of the best beaches in the world by several international rankings. The guidebook describes it as a “postcard-perfect expanse of white sand and turquoise waters.” The beach has almost no waves, making it superb for snorkeling, swimming, and relaxing.
  • Crash Boat in Aguadilla: “It has it all”, so it reads in the guide. This beach offers activities such as swimming, snorkeling, and diving, as well as a huge reef.
  • Green Island in Carolina: This urban beach stands out for its circuit of hotels and restaurants.
  • Combat in Cabo Rojo: It is part of the Boquerón State National Forest. Its crystal-clear waters and large-scale reefs make these pristine shores a paradise for scuba divers. The guide recommends jumping off the pier.
  • Solar Bay on Vieques: It is described as an “idyllic beach” that is perfect for families. On site you can camp and use barbecue grills. In addition, it is one of the most “instagrammable” destinations on Vieques.

2. Charming places in the west

The guide describes the western part of the island as an area of ”sunsets and eternal summers”. These are the sites that you cannot miss:

  • Los Morrillos Lighthouse in Cabo Rojo: According to the guide, it is located in an isolated point with white lime cliffs surrounded by lagoons and swamps on the Morrillos Peninsula. This historic lighthouse was built in 1882 and marks the southeast entrance from the Caribbean Sea, through the Mona Passage into the Atlantic Ocean.
  • The Parguera: It is located in the fishing village of Lajas and is one of the bioluminescent bays in Puerto Rico. It is the only one where motor boats can enter and exit, you can also swim after dark and take rides in glass-bottom boats.
  • Cabo Rojo National Wildlife Refuge: It offers incredible views, according to the guide, such as the salt flats, a crescent-shaped beach with a white area, among others.

3. Circuit 500 years of San Juan

  • San Juan Gate: It is the colorful entrance to Old San Juan that gives way to Paseo de La Princesa and the walled city. It was the official gate used during the colonial era. It has stood tall for centuries. The inscription above cube: “Benedictus Oui Venit In Nomine Domini”, which translates as “Welcome those who come in the name of God”.
  • The Princess Walk: It is a boardwalk lined with lampposts, fountains, and unmissable views of San Juan Bay. Along the boardwalk, there is the Princesa Gastrobar, a restaurant recommended by the guide for offering authentic Puerto Rican food and a bar specializing in types of rum from the island.
  • San Felipe del Morro Castle: This fortification is located in a corner of the islet, it has almost 500 years of history and was an important military post for Spain and later for the United States.

“With this initiative, we will reach millions of users through Apple Maps, exposing visitors to a wider variety of tourism products on the island,” Chandler added about the reasons for joining this platform.
