Faced with the challenge of attendance, the directors of the municipal schools and high schools met with the Comdes Calama team to analyze the guidelines, protocols and safeguards that the return to classes will have. Instance in which it was established that there will no longer be capacity in the classrooms and the schedule will be the same as the establishments had before the pandemic, except for the Presidente Balmaceda school, which will return on a double shift.
Felipe Armijo, Director of Education at Comdes, explained that “we have to return on March 2 with face-to-face classes and compulsory attendance, in addition to other indications, such as that there are no capacity now”, so the directors will work with the teams teachers and educational assistants in these orientations.
Edith Galleguillos, director of Primary Health Care administered by Comdes, was part of this meeting, where she reported on the local situation of covid-19 and vaccination that, according to the Department of Statistics of the Minsal, the population from 6 to 11 years of Calama registers 89.7% vaccination coverage, that is to say that of a total of 17,171 boys and girls of this age there are only 15,395 vaccinated with a second dose. While those between 12 and 17 years old show 94.4% coverage, which means that of 16,646 of them, 15,709 have their second dose.
“It was a day of many doubts, but the reality will be seen when they enter classes and we, from the health area, are preparing for mid-March to see how this community behaves both on the part of the officials and of the teachers, managers, students, classmates and their parents”, said the nurse.

Patricia Chepilla, director of the F-33 Differential El Loa school, valued the meeting and said that “it was necessary to have clarity to start the school year with attendance, as the authority is indicating.” And she added that “my establishment is a differential school, therefore, we have to protect the health of our children and give them confidence, and the parents, because many are afraid of not sending their children. And now it became clear to us that there are no remote or hybrid classes. Therefore, it is presence.
María Astorga, deputy director of Liceo Minero B-10, participated in the meeting and sent a message to the parents. “Relax, we are all strengthening and protecting the measures so that the return to classes is face-to-face and effective. Our teachers and students need it. And for this reason we have to make many changes because this remote work, although it is true, helped us a lot in difficult times. But we already need contact, see each other, get to know each other. Many of our students, first and second grade children, who do not know their establishment, their teacher. The first and second year students are the same, they don’t know the workshops, their classrooms, the environment », she explained.
From February 28, the directors will work in the establishments in these protocols. In addition, Comdes will hold another meeting tomorrow with the directors of the nursery schools, Alto Loa, and Junji VTF staff (Via Transfer of Funds).
