Suara.com – Immunization Child care is a safe and effective way to prevent disease and save lives. However, in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic, the Community Health Center (Puskesmas) experienced a significant decrease in immunization coverage, which was 56.9 percent.
This is very unfortunate considering that complete basic immunization plays a role in protecting children from the risk of being exposed to Covid-19 and PD3I outbreaks (Extraordinary Events of Diseases that Can Be Prevented by Immunization).
Responding to the condition of immunization during the Covid-19 pandemic, which is still ongoing, the Indonesian Pediatrician Association (IDAI) has updated the Recommendation for Routine Child Immunization Services during the Covid-19 Pandemic on 27 July 20213.
This update is the result of considerations from a review of routine immunizations at the beginning of the implementation of the Emergency Community Activity Restrictions (PPKM), the current situation of the Covid-19 pandemic and the extension of PPKM by the government.

In updating the Recommendation for Routine Child Immunization Services during the Covid-19 Pandemic, IDAI recommended that all IDAI members in PPKM areas resume immunization services.
Especially the simultaneous pursuit of immunization by considering the risks in each health facility and implementing strict health protocols for health workers and patients3.
Furthermore, IDAI recommends immunization services during the Covid-19 pandemic to follow the Technical Guidelines for Immunization Services During the Covid-19 Pandemic which had been previously prepared by the Ministry of Health together with IDAI, ITAGI, Komnas KIPI, WHO, Unicef and CHAI Indonesia in May 2023.
Immunization services if necessary and possible can implement services without dropping (lantatur), and in addition to immunization doctors are asked to prioritize teleconsultation for non-emergency child health services and conduct teleconsultation monitoring for children who are in self-isolation.
