On the occasion of the school holidays, the Country of Art and History of Grand Auch adapts, because of the health crisis, its initial program to offer the public only guided tours in the open air. The dates and times remain unchanged, only certain themes have been modified. In order to comply with the regulations in force, the gauges will be extremely limited, the opportunity for the visitor to discover the city of Auch in even more privileged conditions than usual. Reservations are therefore strongly recommended.
Until Wednesday, December 30, several tours will be offered. First of all, Wednesday 23 and Monday 28 December at 3 pm, there will be the visit “Auch, heart of town”, 1 h 15 to discover the essential sites of the city of Auch, from the monumental staircase to the cathedral , passing by the Armagnac tower, the pousterles, the medieval fortifications, the Henri IV house… The public is thus invited to get to know the history and architecture of the city. Meet in front of the Grand Auch Cœur de Gascogne tourist office.
Themed tours of 1.5 hours are also offered, such as that of “Auch criminelle”. They will take place on Tuesday 22 and Tuesday 29 December, at 3 p.m. The opportunity to get to know the dark and cruel stories that have marked the city of Auch from the Middle Ages to today. The public will let themselves be drawn into the high places of judicial power where the guide will tell them about crimes, judgments, tortures and executions committed by the executioner. Another thematic visit offered during the holidays, “Auch at the time of d’Artagnan”. Meet on Monday, December 21, at 3 p.m., in front of the Grand Auch Coeur de Gascogne tourist office, to discover what the city of Auch looked like when the musketeer Charles de Batz de Castelmore, known as d’Artagnan, accompanied Louis XIV. in his southern journey before his marriage in Saint-Jean-deLuz with the Infanta of Spain in 1660.
Finally, the “Literary Auch” visit will take place on Wednesday, December 30, at 3 pm. Meet at the foot of the statue of d’Artagnan, at the monumental staircase. Victor Hugo, Stendhal, François-René de Chateaubriand…, so many great names in literature who made a stopover in Auch one day and who, in their travel diaries, described its heritage and landscapes. Queen Margot and d’Artagnan, both historical figures and heroes of Dumas, also set foot on Auscitan soil. This literary stroll invites the visitor to follow their footsteps through the city, but also to discover Gers authors.
