Guide to Watching the First Republican Presidential Debate: How, When, and Where to Watch

How ⁣to⁣ Watch‍ the First Republican Presidential Debate

The first Republican primary debate of the 2024 presidential race will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 23, from 9 to 11 p.m. Eastern. ⁤The debate, which will take place in Milwaukee, is ⁣sanctioned by the Republican National Committee (R.N.C.) ‍and hosted by Fox⁢ News. Here are some of the ways you can watch⁤ it.

Fox News Channel ⁤will ‌broadcast the event, with live coverage starting at 8 p.m. Eastern, an hour before the debate itself, and running past midnight. Fox Business Network will also ⁣broadcast the same coverage simultaneously.

If you prefer ‌to watch ⁣online, the ⁢face-off will ‍be streamed on foxnews.com and on Fox Nation, which is⁢ Fox News Channel’s subscription streaming platform. Additionally, ⁣the online ⁤streaming platform ‍Rumble will show the debate as an official R.N.C. partner.

As of⁢ the ⁢official qualification deadline on Monday evening, eight candidates have made the stage. They are:⁢ Gov. ⁢Doug Burgum of North ‍Dakota, former Gov. Chris Christie of New Jersey, Gov. Ron‍ DeSantis of Florida, former Gov. Nikki Haley of South Carolina, former Gov. Asa Hutchinson of Arkansas, former Vice President Mike Pence, entrepreneur Vivek ⁢Ramaswamy, and Senator Tim Scott of South Carolina.

The debate guidelines state ‍that the candidates will start⁣ taking questions immediately, with no opening statements.

However, one‌ notable absence from the ⁤debate will ⁣be Donald‍ J. Trump, the clear front-runner for the nomination. Instead of participating, Trump has recorded an interview with former Fox News host Tucker Carlson. ⁣The interview is scheduled to be ‌released on X, the platform formerly known as ‍Twitter, to run concurrently with the debate. This decision by Trump has been⁤ seen as a snub⁣ to⁣ both the⁢ R.N.C. and Fox News, who tried to persuade him to participate in the debate.

The debate will be moderated by two Fox News hosts, Bret Baier and Martha MacCallum. Baier has previously ‌moderated ⁢Republican debates in 2015 and 2016, and he and MacCallum led a town-hall event with Trump ‍in⁣ 2020.

The candidates are likely to focus on a range of issues during the debate. These may include discussions about Trump and ‍the four criminal indictments against him, as well as topics such as inflation, immigration and border security, foreign-policy issues like the situations in Ukraine and China, and‍ abortion. The candidates’ ⁢stances on these issues and more will be ⁢explored during the⁣ debate.

As the first Republican primary‌ debate approaches, viewers are encouraged to share their thoughts on ⁢what they ‍hope the moderators ⁢will ⁢ask the candidates.
