The offshoot of the traditional circus from Russia has had the name for a number of years – and doesn’t want to give it up either. Animal rights activists complain about something completely different.

Bietigheim-Bissingen – The name is emblazoned with light bulbs above the entrance area to the large, red and white tent: Moscow Circus can be read there. These days, when the order to invade the sister state of Ukraine came from the Russian capital, the suffix to the name became a burden for the artists. In fact, they have nothing to do with Vladimir Putin’s official residence. “But people still associate that with us,” says circus director Gino Frank, who has been visiting Bietigheim-Bissingen (Ludwigsburg district) with his troupe since Thursday.
