Korean Singer Choi Min-hwan Sells Gangnam Mansion, Singer Younha Reportedly New Owner
Former FT Island member Choi Min-hwan, who recently found himself embroiled in controversy, has sold his luxurious Gangnam residence for a sizeable profit. Reports indicate that singer Younha, a prominent figure in the K-pop scene, is the new owner of the property.
According to Herald Economy, the transaction occurred in August, with the sale price settling at 3.8 billion won (approximately $2.8 million). Official property records confirm that the transfer was finalized on October 18th.
The single-family home was originally purchased by Choi Min-hwan in 2015 for 1.25 billion won ($928,000), indicating a substantial market gain of over 2.5 billion won ($1.8 million). Choi had demolished the existing structure on the Yulhyeon-dong property and built a modern multi-family home with a total floor area of 408.74 square meters (roughly 4,395 square feet).
Choi Min-hwan and his then-wife, former Laboum member Yul-hee, moved into the residence in 2018. They shared the space with Choi’s parents, who resided on the second floor. Even after their publicized divorce in December 2022, Choi reportedly continued to reside in the house with their children and his parents.
The housing sale comes amidst recent tumult in Choi Min-hwan’s personal life. He faced accusations of prostitution and harassment towards his ex-wife, which led to his departure from the band FT Island. While Seoul’s Gangnam Police Station initiated an investigation, they ultimately decided against forwarding charges to prosecutors due to insufficient evidence.
In a statement addressing the allegations, Choi Min-hwan said: "“I sincerely apologize to my fans for causing concern,‘" and “‘I will change my position afterward.’’
He elaborated on his decision to remain silent for an extended period, stating: " “I thought it was right to express this, and the period (disclosure of the situation) was extended a little longer to do a proper investigation,” he said.
“Focusing on his ex-wife Yulhee, "he said: "“I thought in a situation where the other party’s one-sided claims, false facts, and various distorted speculations were being spread as if they were true, I thought that quickly reflected my situation without any impact could make the situation worse." "More than anything, I thought I needed to set things up well for my three children."”
Adding that his actions have disappointed his supporters, he expressed remorse, saying: ““I sincerely apologize to my fans and members," he said, "I sincerely bow my head in apology for disappointing you with my actions..’”
The sale of his Gangnam mansion marks a significant development in Choi Min-hwan’s life, as he navigates the aftermath of personal turmoil and seeks a new chapter both professionally and personally.
