Kentucky Fried Chicken or kfc extension it’s quite famous fast food in Indonesia for a long time. KFC fast food restaurants are quite easy to find by the public because they are spread across many areas.

Curious, how many KFC outlets are there in all of Indonesia?

As quoted from KFC Indonesia official website on Mon (21/11/2022), the company has a KFC Indonesia restaurant network with a total of 727 outlets spread across 170 cities/regions across Indonesia. Specifically, 434 outlets in Java Island, 135 outlets in Sumatra, 53 outlets in Sulawesi, 49 outlets in Kalimantan, 37 outlets in Bali, NTB & NTT, and 18 outlets in Maluku & Papua.

The sole franchise holder for KFC brand in Indonesia itself is PT Fast Food Indonesia Tbk. The company was founded by the Gelael family in 1978.

In 1979, the Company secured a franchise takeover by opening its first store in October at Jalan Melawai in Jakarta. The opening of the first outlet was successful and was followed by the opening of more outlets in Jakarta and expansion to a number of other major cities in Indonesia including Bandung, Semarang, Surabaya, Medan, Makassar and Manado.

Success builds this brand, it instills kfc extension in the minds of consumers as a well-known and dominant fast food franchise brand in Indonesia.

Joining the Salim Group in 1990 as a major shareholder further fueled the Company’s business expansion initiatives and in 1993 the Company was listed as an issuer on the Jakarta Stock Exchange (now the Indonesian Stock Exchange), a step towards ‘increase its growth.

The majority stake of 80% is currently distributed 43.84% to PT Gelael Pratama of the Gelael Group and 35.84% to PT Megah Eraraharja of the Salim Group; while the minority shares (20%) are divided into Community Cooperatives and Worker Cooperatives.

The Company has acquired the rights to use the KFC brand name from the current franchise owner, Yum! Asia Franchise Pte Ltd, a part of Yum! International Restaurants (YRI). YRI itself is a business entity of Yum! Brands Inc., a public company in the United States and franchise owner of four other well-known brands, namely: Pizza Hut, Taco Bell, A&W and Long John Silvers.

However, by the end of 2011, two other brands: A&W and Long John Silvers were no longer part of Yum! Brands Inc. Even the release of these two brands hasn’t changed the position of Yum! Group as the world’s largest and best fast food restaurant chain in providing a variety of renowned restaurant choices. Also, for the fast food fried chicken category, the company claims that no other brand can beat it kfc extension.
