In 2017, Guerrilla Games came up with Horizon: Zero Dawn and now, a few years later, the Dutch studio has one of the most important PlayStation franchises with Horizon. Earlier this year, the sequel, Horizon: Forbidden West, was released and Guerrilla is also collaborating with Firesprite on Horizon: Call of the Mountain for PlayStation VR2.
In short: Horizon is one of Sony’s flagships. What does this mean for the future? Well, it looks like Guerrilla Games is far from done with the franchise. In conversation with VG247 creative director Mathijs de Jonge indicates that the studio already has plans for a third part of Horizon and that the story of Horizon: Forbidden West is already working towards this.
“Horizon is really about mystery; each of our stories has been about uncovering mysteries in both the old world and the present day, when the game takes place. Indeed, there is plenty of backstory that we can tap into to develop new storylines and create new mysteries from what we’ve already established. And, indeed, this game ends with another big cliffhanger, where we’re setting up some things for the next game once again.”
De Jonge’s statements seem to speak for themselves. It will undoubtedly take a while until a sequel to Horizon: Forbidden West actually arrives, but that Guerrilla Games already has plans for a third part, that’s for sure.
