Guérande peninsula: the Pen-Bron jetty under construction

It protects the traict of Croisic (Loire-Atlantique) since the 18th century. But the Pen-Bron pier in La Turballe (Loire-Atlantique) was showing some signs of fatigue.

The structure is being restored and had never before undergone any major work. It’s done.
Since February 2021, the Aiguillon mole, also called the Pen Bron mole, has been under construction. The operation, led by the mixed union of Loire-Atlantique ports with the public works company Marc SA, should be completed in a few days.

Restore identically

During these four months, this advance towards the sea, which stretches over 200 m, from the tip of Pen Bron, was fully consolidated. And it was about time.

A collision with a boat or a violent storm could have caused the pier to fall or seriously damage.
Because until now, the only interventions had consisted in maintaining it in state.
But there is no question of sabotaging this element of heritage, built in stone. The goal was to keep the structure as it had been built.

We have no reason to be otherwise, it fulfills its role perfectly.

1500 m2 of joints, 100 t of cement

The operation therefore consisted in patiently removing the original gaskets and installing new ones. It was also necessary to redo the stones, inject cement to anchor the work and fill the voids under the stones. 1500 m2 of repointing and 100 t of cement will have been necessary.
Objective: to preserve this maritime rampart for many years to come. Cost of the operation: € 380,000.
But not all will be finished this year. A second phase will be launched within one or two years to complete the land part.
In a few days, walkers will once again be able to visit the pier and enjoy a remarkable view of the Traict du Croisic.
