” Yes, I am feeling better. But we must remain cautious, ”says the director of Theras Santé with a long sigh. The association, headquartered in Thionville, has come a long way: in November, covid-19 infected 75 of its residents in Guénange (Les Glycines) and Thionville (Saint-Pierre). A pandemic between the walls that has also massively affected caregivers and staff.
The good news comes from the latest PCR tests carried out on seniors last week. At Les Glycines, there were only two positive people left (against 45 the previous week). Two other people are still hospitalized. The death toll stopped at six; a stable figure compared to the penultimate week of November. The staff were also tested; no more patients are to be deplored. Everyone has resumed their post.
In Saint-Pierre, the building named Les Étangs was also screened a few days ago. Three additional residents tested positive. Of the thirty positive people in mid-November, there are still five patients to this day. “People have mild symptoms,” says the director of Theras Santé. However, one person is still hospitalized and two people died last week. Here, too, the staff are off the hook.

The end of isolation
The epidemic is therefore behind and the establishments of Guénange and Thionville have released their residents from their respective rooms. Since Friday at Les Glycines and Monday at Saint-Pierre, meals can again be taken in the common dining room. Likewise, the families were informed of the resumption of visits, with a unique protocol, with a limited number of people.
As the holidays approach, Les Glycines and Saint-Pierre are slowly getting back on their feet. This unprecedented end of the year will force residents to spend Christmas without their loved ones. “Things will be organized, but without outside guests,” confirms the director. And again, all the elderly will be tested before the 24th. You can never be too careful.
