It is expected for tomorrow, October 10th, the ruling of the Reykjavik District Court in the proceedings against Albert Gudmundsson, accused of “sexual misconduct“. The case was closed and then reopened after the appeal of the woman who had reported him for sexual harassment in the summer of 2023. Following the complaint, he was also excluded from the national team, dictated by the code of ethics of the Icelandic federation which excludes a player under investigation from the group (both from training and matches).
The woman’s accusations
According to the indictment, Gudmundsson he allegedly used “coercion” against the woman who now, through his lawyers, asks that he be sentenced to prison and that he pay all the court costs. It is also asked on behalf of the woman that the footballer you pay three million Icelandic crowns (around 20 thousand euros) for the damage caused. The woman appeals to article 194 of the Icelandic general penal code regarding sexual crimes, which states: «Whoever has sexual intercourse with a person without his consent is guilty of rape and is punished with imprisonment from a minimum of 12 months to a maximum of 16 years».
Any appeal by November 8th
The verdict is expected on Thursday 10 October and then both parties will have until 8 November for any appeal. In this case the final sentence would be postponed to next summer, as well as all of Fiorentina’s considerations on the redemption of his card on which some clauses hang.
