Gudang (灸堂) Kim Nam-soo, an acupuncturist, who made’Muguk Boyang Moxibustion’, a type of moxibustion, died. 105 years old.
On the 28th, Jangseong-gun, Jeollanam-do, announced that Kim Ong passed away the day before.
The deceased was born in Gwangsan-gun, Jeollanam-do (now Jangseong-gun) in 1915, and is known to have opened Namsu Acupuncture Center in 1943. He served as a visiting professor at Beijing Acupuncture Bone Sang Academy, and a chairman at the Department of Natural Medicine at the Graduate School of Green University. In 2012, he received the Gold Medal for Volunteer Service from US President Barack Obama, the Presidential Citation in 2002 (2002) and the Camellia of the National Medal in 2008. In 2015, even at the age of 100, he returned to his hometown and opened the Mugeuk Restoration Moxa Center in Seosam-myeon, Jangseong-gun.
The deceased, who did not have a license for oriental medicine and obtained acupuncture certification late in 1983, was caught up in controversy over’unlicensed medical practice’. In response to this, the Constitutional Court in 2011 determined that it was an’acceptable procedure according to the common concept of society.
