The Guayaquil Municipality reported stability in the number of new infections of coronavirus and a slight decrease in both intensive care unit (ICU) bed occupancy and deaths from the virus in the city.
“The behavior of the pandemic it is quite stable, even with a downward trend ”, reported this Monday, August 2, 2021, the epidemiologist Carlos Farhat, Health coordinator of the Municipality. “Have ICU beds in an occupation of around 65% or 66%, taking into account the public and private hospitalization apparatus ”.
The average number of deaths is four per day, one less than the previous two weeks. And in the last week there was a day in which only one person died from the virus in Guayaquil, stressed the epidemiologist.
The Delta variant, a more contagious lineage of the coronavirus, has been identified in two patients in Guayaquil and one in the neighboring canton of Samborondón. “The monitoring of the Delta variant, it is likely that as it is more transmissible, it is more dispersed than is thought, not only in Guayaquil but in other cities.
The impact on the behavior of the disease we have not seen yet ”, added Farhat.
Carlos Salvador, Director of Municipal Health, reported that this week the Cabildo will only deliver food kits as an incentive to people who go to get vaccinated against the coronavirus in three of the seven municipal vaccination points.
These are the Metrovía station at 25 de Julio, La Casuarina and Mucho Lote, the largest centers in the Municipality. The delivery of baskets, which has generated high attendance and crowds in the municipal precincts, it will be carried out until the stocks of the kits purchased for this purpose are exhausted, Salvador ratified.
Between Friday and Saturday, 99 068 people received the first punctures of the vaccines in Guayaquil, while Quito applied the first 53,652 doses in the two days, according to the Vaccination meter of the Ministry of Public Health (SMEs).
On Friday, July 30, the Cabildo broke the record for vaccinated in its precincts, with 18,431 people who received the formula in a single day (until two weeks ago an average of 10,000 punctures were recorded per day).
The Cabildo increased its vaccinations from four to seven. During this last week 86,477 people were vaccinated in municipal centers. The seven inoculation points, plus the municipal brigades in the zones, add up to almost 400,000 people vaccinated against covid-19 since April 13, the Municipality reported.
