However, this is just the background to the grief that overwhelms him. On the night of Monday, December 11, his two oldest children, Víctor Alcides and Álex Geovanny Martínez Lino, came to his aid, after criminals broke into his home. When they were two blocks from their house, located in the Voluntad de Dios cooperative, northwest of Guayaquil, they were intercepted by criminals, who forcibly took them away. One of them already appeared, but dead.

With his broken voice, Víctor said that for two months he has not been able to pay the two dollars that the extortionists demand of him weekly and that for this reason they entered his home to rob and beat him.

With 15 days left until the end of the year, Zone 8, made up of Guayaquil, Durán and Samborondón, registers 2,618 murders.

“I called my guys on the phone and told them what was happening. They told me: ‘Daddy, we’re going there.’ They took a bus, got off at the line 123 station and when they were close to my home, they intercepted them and took them away on a motorcycle. I could no longer return home, they left me without a home and without children.“, he said sadly, while doing the procedures to remove the body of Álex Geovanny, who was 34 years old and was found in a state of decomposition.

His corpse was found Friday morning near a water canala, on the road to the coast, at the entrance to the Chongón parish.

The sexagenarian said that possibly the members of the same criminal gang that demands money from people in the sector in exchange for supposed security, are the ones who kidnapped his children. “I paid for the ‘vaccine’, but I earned 2 or 3 dollars a day sweeping in a market, it was no longer enough for me. On the door of the house they wrote the letters PB, which according to the neighbors means that my home no longer belongs to me, but is ‘the property of the gang.'”

The victims’ sister said that the sadness that Álex’s wife felt when she found out that he had been found dead caused her to give birth early. “My sister-in-law’s water broke when they told her about her husband. Thank God the baby was born well.”

The wife of Víctor Alcides, who yesterday accompanied her in-laws in the procedures to remove the body of her brother-in-law, He said that his beloved Víctor, in order to cover household expenses, works as a mechanic’s assistant.

“We are poor but honest people, we live in the suburb of Guayaquil. The intention of my husband and my brother-in-law was to help their father, that’s why they took a bus at that time of night and headed to that very dangerous area, where several people have disappeared. I don’t lose hope that he’s alive. We have two children and the youngest is disabled.” (AEB)
