Guatemalan Woman’s Remains Return Home for Funeral after Tragic Accident in New York Subway

This Friday, November 3, the remains of the young woman arrived in Chichicastenango, a municipality in Guatemala where she was originally from.

Dozens of people, including several residents, as well as friends and family, carried out a caravan to the community of Agua Escondida, where Yésica’s parents live and where she left in search of a better future in the United States.

The caravan started in front of Rincón Suizo in the municipality of Tecpán.

The young woman’s body arrived in a coffin that was covered by a United States flag.

With this funeral, the young woman’s family and parents were able to say goodbye to her 17 days after the fatal accident.

The young woman of Guatemalan origin fell onto the train track on October 17 at the Jackson Heights – Roosevelt Avenue station, in Queens.

Yésika Marleny’s sister informed her parents, who are in Guatemala, of the death, and now the family is seeking to raise funds to repatriate the body. She had emigrated to the United States due to lack of opportunities in her country.

The NYPD informed the family that it could not show them the video of the Guatemalan woman fainting and falling onto the train track, captured by a security camera. However, the scene also ended up on TikTok and shows that the young woman did collapse on the edge of the platform.
