Authorities in charge authorized four dairy companies from Guatemala for a period of three years to export their products to Honduras, in accordance with the Central American Regulations, it was reported here today.

As reported by the local Ministry of Economy and Planning, the pact was achieved in line with the provisions of the Central American Regulation on Sanitary and Phytosanitary Measures and Procedures.

In 2018, he recalled, Honduras prevented the entry of chapin products derived from milk due to a commitment assumed by the majority of countries in the region.
The regulations establish that exportable production plants must be inspected and certified by the authorities of the destination nation.
Data from the Dairy Development Association (Asodel) show that dairy production in Guatemala generates more than 150 million dollars a year, mainly benefiting rural areas and enterprises led by women.
The farms producing this liquid exceed 14 thousand, of which 800 are formal, part of 16 companies that obtain from five thousand to 200 thousand liters of milk per day.
The traditional dairy development zone of Guatemala is the central highlands (Chimaltenango department and Guatemala San José Pínula area), the southeastern zone (Santa Rosa, Jutiapa and Jalapa) and the South Coast (Escuintla and Suchitepéquez).
