The Government of Guatemala has coordinated efforts with the Government of Honduras to work for the sanitation of the Motagua River.
Both nations have stressed that the best option to address the issue is to work together, since it is a problem that involves both countries.

Recently, the Vice Foreign Minister of Honduras thanked the Guatemalan authorities for their support for the execution of environmental projects on the treatment of the Motagua.
“On behalf of Honduras, we also want to thank this government that has barely been in business for a year. The support that the opening to jointly address the issue of the Motagua River has always received from Guatemala,” he explained.

Among the treatment plans, the Ministry of the Environment and Natural Resources (MARN) has joined efforts with international entities such as 4Ocean.
The head of the environmental portfolio has held meetings with representatives of that institution. During these, the strategic alliance has been reaffirmed, which will allow the creation of new alternatives for cleaning this body of water.

4Ocean has also been involved in one of the MARN initiatives called Comprehensive Intervention Strategy for the Motagua River Basin.
This methodology is focused on the treatment and well-being of the communities that reside in the surroundings.
