Guatemala City MSPAS Reports Successful Rabies Vaccination Efforts

Guatemala City, Nov 13 (AGN).- The Ministry of Public Health and Social Assistance (MSPAS) reported that health personnel from the Ciudad Real health center, zone 12 of the capital, joined the rabies vaccination efforts.

According to the MSPAS, health professionals walked the streets and avenues of that neighborhood to immunize dogs and cats. During their tour, the health professionals vaccinated just over 2,300 pets.

In addition, the MSPAS reported that the neighbors appreciated the support of that portfolio, as well as the efforts and commitment of the professionals to reach the different areas of that community.

Other services

During the mobile days, vaccination is also promoted for children, adults and pregnant women. In that sense, the delegate of the Ciudad Real health center, Mariela Ximic, called on residents to attend the different sessions held there.

We call on neighbors to attend comprehensive sessions so that the little ones have their entire vaccination and deworming schedule, as well as their weight and height checks.

Anger

THE MSPAS, with the support of experts from the Zoonosis Program, details that rabies is a fatal disease that affects the nervous system. However, it is 100% preventable through vaccination. Hence, the importance of vaccinating pets arises.

This virus is found in the saliva of infected animals and is transmitted through bites, scratches or contact with the mucosa of the eyes, nose and mouth.

Prevention

With the aim that Guatemalans contribute to the elimination of rabies, health authorities have issued some recommendations to avoid cases of this disease.

vaccinate dogs every year from one month of age, request and keep the vaccination card on hand in case of being bitten by a dog, cat or other animal, immediately go to the nearest Health service to be evaluated and treated . If your dog or cat is bitten by an unknown animal, it is necessary to contact the nearest Health service.
