Guatemala City/Prensa Latina

Agents from the General Subdirectorate of Anti-Narcotics Information Analysis captured Ramón “N”, 47, the tenth alleged drug trafficker of 2024, the National Civil Police (PNC) of Guatemala reported today.

The Public Prosecutor’s Office coordinated with that department for the actions in the Villa Nueva hamlet, San Pedro Sacatepéquez, department of San Marcos, bordering Mexico, the military force added.

According to the source, Ramón “N” had a valid arrest warrant for extradition to the northern country for the crime of conspiracy to manufacture and distribute five kilograms or more of cocaine.

The PNC arrested the ninth person subject to extradition this year for links to drug trafficking on July 22 during an operation carried out at kilometer 104 of the CA-2 highway, in the jurisdiction of Santa Lucía Cotzumalguapa, Escuintla.

Previously, he imprisoned Ronaldo Ventura Alvarado, 61, nicknamed “Bigotes,” who faces charges of links to drug trafficking, during an operation carried out on June 29 in the village of El Naranjo, La Libertad, Petén.

The PNC captured the first extraditable of 2024 on January 3, Luis Enrique Ruiz Morales, “high profile”, in Antigua Guatemala, Sacatepéquez department.

During 2023, police forces arrested 20 people with requests filed by the US justice system for identical violations.

In 2022, 27 people wanted for extradition were captured, but the highest historical figure in the files (57) dates back to 2021.

The figure rises to around 200 people since 2019 to date, based on official reports.

Like Colombia, Honduras and Mexico, the Guatemalan government has an agreement to arrest men and women linked to illegal drug trafficking from South America and who use this bridge to achieve their goal.
