Farnesina –
At the instigation of the Vice President of the Council of Ministers and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Hon. Antonio Tajani, the Secretary General of the Farnesina, Ambassador Riccardo Guariglia, will be in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, on 16 and 17 March to preside an area meeting focused on the prospects of Italian development cooperation in East Africa.
The meeting will be attended by the Ambassadors and heads of the offices of the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS) responsible for Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique, Somalia, Sudan, Tanzania and Uganda, as well as the Director General for Development Cooperation Development, Stefano Gatti, to the Director of AICS, Marco Rusconi, and to top representatives of Cassa Depositi e Prestiti.
The area meeting, inserted in the framework of a joint mission of the Italian Cooperation system carried out in Ethiopia, Uganda, Tanzania and Kenya, confirms the centrality of Africa in Italian foreign policy and constitutes a concrete follow-up to the Italy-Africa Summit hosted in Rome last January.
The meeting will be useful to discuss the intervention strategy of the Italian Cooperation in East Africa, based on the needs, priorities and development programs of the partner countries and to define the synergies that can be developed with the action to support internationalization of Italian companies.
In line with the approach and objectives of the Mattei Plan, the objective is also to promote a mutually beneficial “growth diplomacy” for Italy and African countries, also through the identification and development of large projects in sectors strategic, in collaboration with public and private entities of the Italian system. A first important example of these projects is the launch of a regional program, elaborated and developed with the involvement of the main Italian coffee companies, focused on the sustainable development of a coffee production chain resilient to climate change and aimed at creating value and of job opportunities in partner countries.
