Manchester –
Pep Guardiola admitted Manchester City did not start the season with the right mentality. They lose their hunger.
Manchester City have practically been in a chasing position this season in the Premier League title race. Arsenal, who appeared brilliant, almost always lead the standings.
Even at one point Man City was eight points behind the Gunners. But that gap is slowly being trimmed as the Citizens are more consistent and their rivals are starting to falter.
When Man City was stringing six consecutive wins, Arsenal began to be hampered in the same period. The north London club have only drawn their last three matches, making them now only five points away from Man City with two matches in hand.
Man City manager Pep Guardiola admits his team started this season with a different intensity. Two Premier League titles in a row made the ambitions of the players slightly decrease.
“I’ve been saying for weeks now, towards the end of the season we know if we lose a game, the situation will be over,” he was quoted as saying. Sky Sports.
“When you have situations like this, in October, November, you don’t get that feeling. Especially after successive championships.”
“For the first Premier League title, we started the season like every game was a final, every game was a final. I really remember, looking from the outside, Arsenal had that feeling this season.”
“This season for us, after successive wins, every game was not like a final at the beginning. But now in the last few months, with the Champions League, FA Cup, Premier League, we see it like that because the end is very close. Now we know exactly what are you chasing,” Guardiola added.
Manchester City will host Arsenal at the Etihad, Thursday (27/4/2023) early morning WIB, in the Premier League continuation. This fight is expected to determine the ending of the title competition.
