The evidence brought to light by the non-profit Oil Change International and presented in an article by the Guardian, proves the involvement of the Greek shipbuilding capital in the transport of oil and petroleum products used by the far-right government of Netanyahu to continue the massacre of Palestinians in Gaza, despite the January 26 decision of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) calling on the government of Israel to take measures to prevent acts of genocide in Gaza.
According to the figures presented on its website by the Guardian, about 80% of the deliveries of jet fuel, diesel and other petroleum products that Israel has purchased from the US in the last nine months have been transferred to the country after the IDF decision.
In addition, Israel has been supplied with 4.1 million tonnes of crude (half of which has been delivered since the International Court of Justice ruling), Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Gabon, Nigeria, Brazil and most recently the Republic of Congo and Italy. About two-thirds of the crude delivered to Israel comes from either multi-shareholder companies or private companies.
The report includes data collected by consulting firm Data Desk in its survey of Israel’s supply chain from October 21 to July 12, which incorporates data on cargo ship positions, trade flows, information from port authorities , shipping companies and satellite imagery, as well as financial reports and media reports.
It follows from these that the crude that ended up in the two Israeli refineries came by 28% from Azerbaijan and by 22% from Kazakhstan. Azeri oil passed through the Baku-Ceyhan pipeline and was loaded onto tankers from the Turkish port of Ceyhan (despite the fact that Turkey recently filed a request to have South Africa be a “trustee” in its case at the DRC against Israel).
In addition, it appears that African countries sent a total of 37% of the crude that reached Israel, but that European companies based in Italy, Greece and Albania supplied Israel with already refined petroleum products after January 26. For its part, Cyprus provided transit services for crude oil from Africa and Kazakhstan.
Regarding specifically Greece, Israel has imported quantities of diesel from our country, as well as the USA. In addition, at the beginning of August, Greece was the only country that allowed the presence of a tanker carrying 300,000 barrels of fuel to Israel in its territorial waters, after Spain and Gibraltar refused to dock at a port, due to reactions. The Greek government has not responded to questions about the findings concerning it, according to the Guardian.
However, it is not improbable that both the Greek government and other factors, such as for example well-known Greek shipowners, will be forced to account in the case of genocide by Israel, since the conditions that our country (like other involved countries) has sign the pledge to do what it can to prevent a possible genocide or acts of genocide.
