Mexico City. With a free kick, one of his specialties, Andrés Guardado scored his first goal with the León club to beat Querétaro 4-0 on matchday 14 of the Apertura 2024 tournament. The victory allows the Esmeraldas to jump to eleventh place with 16 units to stalk the play in positions and get closer to the league, while the Roosters remain in the last step.
After his stay in Europe, Guardado returned to Mexico a year ago to defend the León jersey and it was only now that he managed to celebrate a goal with Eduardo Berizzo’s team.
With the match almost decided, Guardado took a free kick in the 90th minute with such perfection that he sent the ball directly into the nets to close the victory for the Esmeraldas in front of their fans at the Nou Camp stadium.
Ángel Estrada was the first to hit the net to give the locals the lead with a header in the 35th minute. Against a Querétaro team that offered little in attack, León imposed its conditions with goals from Luciano Cabral (71) and Diego Hernandez (76).
