Given the refusal of pharmaceutical companies to sell vaccines against Covid-19 to Mexican states, but only to federal authorities, Guanajuato will seek that the United States can donate biologicals in order to advance in the protection of people who live in the entity; California and Texas are some of these states that could donate doses for Guanajuato.
Juan Hernández, head of the Secretariat for Migrants and International Liaison of Guanajuato, said that they will establish communication with the governments of Texas and California to analyze vaccine donation mechanisms and anticipated that this could be similar to the one that occurred in Piedras Negras, Coahuila, where vaccines were donated by Texas companies and to which they served to protect a thousand adolescents between 12 and 17 years old.
“We are in communication with the government of Texas to analyze a scheme similar to the one they had with Coahuila and we are awaiting a response; in that case of Coahuila, it was a particular situation because it was a collaboration between companies that have a presence in Texas and that Mexican state, but we hope to find a mechanism that allows us to get this vaccine donation, “he said.
Juan Hernández said that they will also be talking with California to get donations of doses against Covid-19 and be able to apply them in Guanajuato.
As in the case of Coahuila, if Guanajuato gets the vaccine donation tentatively, it would be from the Pfizer brand, which is the one that is being applied the most in the United States, and this would be applied to adolescents between 12 and 17 years old, as well as to minors who obtained a protection and so far there are more than 21 cases in the entity.
Guanajuato stays close to buying vaccines
The Secretary for Migrant and International Liaison assured that Guanajuato is still looking abroad for someone who can sell it vaccines against Covid-19, but that possibility has not yet been opened, which he said was close to being realized for the state.
“We were very close to being sold vaccines, but they couldn’t. The agreement is that only the governments of the countries will be sold, but we continue to insist everywhere ”.
