Guanajuato Health System Launches HPV Vaccination Campaign for Girls in 46 Municipalities

Irapuato, Guanajuato, September 11, 2023.-The Guanajuato Health System began a vaccination campaign against the Human Papillomavirus in Guanajuato girls from the 46 municipalities of the state.

The contemplated date of application will be from September 11 where the Guanajuato Health System has a goal of 108,875 doses to apply.

The state launch took place at the Leyes de Reforma school, in the municipality of Irapuato, with the General Coordinator of Public Health, Moisés Andrade Quezada and the Director of Public Health, Pablo Sánchez Gastelum.

The Mexican Social Security Institute 61,440 doses, ISSSTE 2,780 doses and SEDENA 300 doses, among others.

According to the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), Human Papillomavirus (HPV) infection is considered the most common sexually transmitted infection (STI), affecting more than half of sexually active women and men. at some point in their lives.

HPV is a double-stranded DNA virus, belonging to the Papovaviridae family, Papillomavirus genus. More than 200 different genotypes of human papillomavirus have been identified.

The HPV vaccine used in Mexico is a vaccine made using recombinant DNA technology with genetic material incorporated into Saaccharomyces cerevisiaae, which replicates the viral capsid proteins, to later be purified and reassembled into particles with a structure similar to wild virus.

The campaign is aimed at:

a) Girls who are in the fifth grade of primary school or 11 years old who are not in school.

b) Girls who are in the sixth grade of primary school or 12 years old who are not in school.

c) Girls who are in the first grade of secondary school or who are 13 years old and are not in school.

d) Girls who belong to the target groups of the 2022 campaign, that is, they are currently studying the second and third grade of secondary school or 14 and 15 years old who are not in school, as long as they have not received at least one dose of vaccine. against HPV in previous years.
